But when Kate’s werewolf friend Derek is discovered nearly dead, she must confront her greatest challenge yet. Review
This series just keeps getting better and better! Smart, feisty Kate Daniels has her work cut out in Atlanta working for the Order of Merciful Aid helping folk affected by paranormal problems. However, when her friend Derek, a young werewolf, is attacked and left for dead she must investigate the new bad guys in town and find out what they're plotting.
This time around we learn a bit more about Kate, poor Derek is put in harms way (poor Derek, that kid really deserves a break), Kate and Curran do the humorous verbal sparring thing they do so well and a lot of other magical and gory stuff happens.
I think I enjoyed this book more than the previous two. I found the wit more sharply honed and became very invested in several of the characters. I just loved the bit with Raphael and the romance novels especially the fact that he read them and knows he can’t/won’t/doesn’t want to measure up to them. So very cute. I also adored Curran’s menu at the very end. That was hilarious.
This leads Kate and friends to the world of the illegal Midnight Games. At the same time the sexual tension between Kate and Curran, the hunky Beast Lord, is ramping up as he works at seducing her and she doesn't know how much longer she can resist. Great characters, great plot, plenty of action and a fun read!
