Synopsis

#1 New York Times bestselling author Ilona Andrews launches a brand new Hidden Legacy series, in which one woman must place her trust in a seductive, dangerous man who sets off an even more dangerous desire…

Nevada Baylor is faced with the most challenging case of her detective career—a suicide mission to bring in a suspect in a volatile case. Nevada isn’t sure she has the chops. Her quarry is a Prime, the highest rank of magic user, who can set anyone and anything on fire.

Then she’s kidnapped by Connor “Mad” Rogan—a darkly tempting billionaire with equally devastating powers. Torn between wanting to run or surrender to their overwhelming attraction, Nevada must join forces with Rogan to stay alive.

Rogan’s after the same target, so he needs Nevada. But she’s getting under his skin, making him care about someone other than himself for a change. And, as Rogan has learned, love can be as perilous as death, especially in the magic world.

Review

My second series by this author-duo. I admit I only started the Hidden Legacy series because I'm in KD-withdrawal and was hoping for the trademark humour and action - which I both got.

In this series, we follow Nevada, a young woman and PI, as she struggles to make a living for herself and her family (mother, grandmother, two sisters and two male cousins) in Houston. But as this is UF again, Houston is not the kind of city we know. Instead, in the 18hundreds a serum was discovered that awakens magical abilities in humans, leading to some families no longer marrying for names or money, but for magical talents. Now, those Houses control next to everything (financially, politically), including the business of Nevada and her family, which is how she gets sucked into a very complicated and very dangerous job about a fire mage.
As if that was not enough, several parties are interested in the aforementioned fire mage and she has to team up with a former major and Prime (strongest of the mages), who is ... well, a class of his own in many ways.

What I very much like is that Ilona Andrews' stories cannot just be dismissed as popcorn entertainment. Sure, they are that too, but so much more. Every character, no matter how short an appearance he or she makes, is very fleshed out, has their very own personality and the reader can feel that. The world the authors create here is vivid and "real".
Naturally, the gem of the story is the clash of certain characters as well as the sass of some - grandma Frida definitely is my favourite of the bunch - as well as the interactions between the people (Nevada's family is wonderful).

To say that I was well entertained would be an understatement and I started the next book already.

Planning on giving the book a try? Link is above to whisk you away to a world of fantasy like you've never seen before.
